During his career as a Neurosurgeon, Dr. Reza had many patients who were diagnosed with Glioblastoma Multiforme (GBM), the most common brain tumor in adults. Glioblastoma tumors are malignant, and diagnosed patients have very poor survival rates. Dr Khatib says: as a neurosurgeon with 45 years of experience, treating Glioblastoma caused me the greatest frustration and anguish of my career. Surgical removal, chemotherapy, and radiation were at most only palliative. Death was a certain outcome. Families were devastated and I shared their grief. the devastation must be halted, and I vowed to help in this goal now that I am in a financial position to do so. Dr. Khatib decided to do anything in his power to help in finding a cure for this beast. He was determined to work with scholars and colleagues to advance the understanding about brain tumor (GBM) and find the cure eventually for this devastating disease. Today we are happy to announce that the Khatib foundation is providing funds to three major medical universities to work together toward one single goal! Finding a cure for GBM. funds are provided to Johns Hopkins University, Case Westerns Reserved, and Cleveland Clinic in light of hope for a cure for GBM in perpetuity. In each university, the top scholars of the department of neurology & neurosurgery are in charge of a research program.
