• Dr. Khatib had many patients who were diagnosed with Glioblastoma Multiforme (GBM), and the eradication of this illness remained his highest priority. The Khatib Foundation has provided funds to three major medical universities to work together toward one single goal –  finding the cure for GBM. Funds are provided to Johns Hopkins University, Case Western Reserve, and the Cleveland Clinic in light of hope for a cure for GBM in perpetuity.

At each university, the top scholars of the department of neurology & neurosurgery are in charge of a research program, with Dr. Henry Brem of Johns Hopkins administering overall project coordination and reporting.

As the most common brain tumor in adults. Glioblastoma tumors are malignant, and diagnosed patients have very poor survival rates. Dr Khatib says: as a neurosurgeon with 45 years of experience, Treating Glioblastoma caused me the greatest frustration and anguish of my Dr.Khatib his greatest frustrations. Surgical removal, chemotherapy, and radiation were at most only palliative. Death is all but a certain outcome. Families are devastated. This illness must be halted!

The projects of the Khatib Foundation that are searching for glioblastoma's cure share an important characteristic with Dr. Khatib's projects in Iran, and his other humanitarian projects. All are non-political, aimed at purely humanitarian goals, and all have been built to function in perpetuity.  The Khatib medical research positions, the Clinic and School for the Indigent, Mashhad's first Hospice, his engineering endowment to the University of Miami and his support for comparative religion studies have all been designed to carry on their important missions today, and to continue performing well into the future.

These elements are at the heart of the Khatib Foundation Legacy.

Dr. Henry Brem
Harvey Cushing Professor in Neurosurgery and director of the Johns Hopkins Department of Neurosurgery.
“The magnitude of the gift is unprecedented, and the longevity of the gift. It’s an endowed fund to sustain long-term. Dr. Khatib wants to use the money that he’s saved over his lifetime to fulfill the dream of working towards a solution of the glioblastoma problem,”

Dr. Henry Brem of Johns Hopkins also serves as a trustee of the Khatib Foundation, and continued to be hightly instrumental in the implamentation of the foundation, hopefully well into the future.

Dr. John Weingarten was recently welcomed to his new position in the Endowed Professorship in Neurosurgery supported by the Khatib Foundation. Dr Weingarten brings his distiguished record of accomplishment in his field.

We welcome him!
