Guests of distinction included nationally known medical professionals famous for their work in American and Iranian health care communities. A special guest was Dr. Charlotte Parsa, who serves as a trustee of Dr. Khatib’s Foundation Board and brought her son Izzy. Dr. Donald Noble and Dr. Justin Lathia attended, and Doctors Mahammadi and Bahram Ahmadi attended with their wives.

Thirty five of Reza’s party guests were friends and club members from his Khatib Bridge & Education Center in Stuart. These included Patricia Tucker, bridge grand master, founder and national chairperson of the Jumpstart Youth Bridge Program. Reza’s love of bridge and his interest in promoting bridge to younger generations are well known, and he still competes daily in on-line bridge play with one of five regular partners; Don Williams, Al Peters, Carol Helderlein, Deborah Monks and Peter Curlender.

To a Happy Persian Birthday!

To launch the celebration, a traditional Persian drum, known as a daf, was used in an offering and short tribute by family and associates. The daf is a large single headed frame drum that is central to Kurdish and Iranian folk music, with rows of internal metal rings or chains that create a shimmering jangling sound when struck, tilted, or shaken.
